Abstract
In recent years the risk of mother-to-child transmission of HIV in developed countries has declined to less than 1%. This success is due to the implementation of a package of interventions including universal HIV screening in pregnancy, provision of highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) to HIV-infected pregnant women, antiretroviral (ARV) prophylaxis for the infant during the first 6 weeks of life and avoidance of breastfeeding. In resource-limited countries however, vertical transmission rates can be as high as 35-40% in untreated breastfeeding populations.

Sex Differences in Patterns of Migration and HIV Risk in Western Kenya
Abstract
Research on the role of migration in the spread of HIV/AIDS has almost exclusively focused on male labor migration patterns, finding migration to be a risk factor for men and their non-migrant partners, yet neglecting to measure the HIV risks of migration for women. Moreover, the very manner in which migration is conventionally studied is shaped by the paradigm of male labor migration, and thus fails to capture the complexity of women's mobility in sub-Saharan Africa today.

Abstract
Malaria is the leading cause of morbidity and mortality among children in Uganda. The clinical presentation of malaria is modulated by the natural development of acquired immunity, which develops slowly, wanes rapidly, and is poorly understood. A more thorough understanding of natural immunity to malaria and its development during early childhood is needed to inform development of an effective vaccine.

Methods to improve accuracy in self-reported sexual behavior are critical in reducing errors that impede accurate assessment of intervention outcomes and prevalence estimates of HIV-related risk. Research findings to date provide abundant empirical evidence that reliability and validity of self-reported sexual behavior is a major problem. Scientific models of the survey question-answer process specify question comprehension as a necessary precursor to enhancing data quality.

The Women's Interagency HIV Study (WIHS) is a longitudinal cohort study of women with HIV, and a risk-set match control group; the women enrolled are primarily African American and Latina, with a small number of Asian and Caucasian non-Hispanic women. In Fall of 2011, the WIHS National Community Advisory Board (NCAB) requested to receive their individual estimates of ancestry admixture that are being used as covariates in genomic studies.

The increasing call for community-level evaluation of "combination HIV prevention" (packages of our best evidence-based HIV prevention interventions) has brought to the forefront the need to develop novel methods of both evaluating these combinations of interventions in aggregate and estimating the relative contributions of individual components of the combined intervention. However, such comprehensive methods do not exist.
