Ayesha Appa, MD

Biography

I am interested in understanding current gaps in effective care for people who have substance use disorders and deep-seated infections, including people living with HIV. In fellowship, I plan to study how treatment plans and outcomes of deep-seated S. Aureus infections differ in people who inject drugs, and separately, how opioid prescribing may be related to HIV viremia in patients with chronic pain. I hope to gain skills around multi-disciplinary investigation, implementation science, and thoughtful clinical research design for domestic vulnerable populations.
