Biography

Dr. Cary’s research interest is in cellular mechanisms that regulate HIV transcription and inflammation and in particular the consequence of the virus’ ability to use host transcription machinery, HIV latency. She has published work using the Chinese Traditional Medicinal herb, kansui, which reactivate latent HIV similar to purified compounds, which is currently under investigation in NHP and human clinical trials. She continues work in this area with other potential latency reactivating compounds. Additionally, Dr. Cary is also working on understanding resting T cell biology, which drives HIV into latency in these cells, which could be applied to other disease and auto-immune models.
