Nozipho Becker, PhD
Biography
My research interests include the following: food insecurity, nutrition, HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment, risk factors to HIV treatment outcomes, overweight/obesity, nutrition-related noncommunicable diseases (e.g. cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, and hypertension), adolescent nutrition and health, maternal and child health, community-based research, substance use/abuse (cannabis, tobacco, and alcohol), and social determinants of health.
As a TAPS fellow, my goal is to contribute to knowledge that addresses issues of HIV prevention, risk factors to HIV treatment outcomes, food/nutrition security, overweight/obesity, and diet/nutrition-related noncommunicable diseases (NCDs). I envision my future research utilizing both quantitative and qualitative methods in conducting population-based observational and intervention research as a way to improve health outcomes among people living with HIV within both domestic and international settings.
