Biography

I am currently a Postdoctoral Scholar at the SF Veteran Affairs Medical Center/UCSF. My research focuses on understanding the mechanisms underlying HIV latency in various tissues. Our recent study investigated the levels of HIV RNA/DNA present in the gut and blood from HIV-infected individuals on suppressive antiretroviral treatment and demonstrated differences at the transcriptional level between these tissues (Nov 2018 Plos Pathogens). My current work focuses on validating and optimizing a single-cell multiplex qRT-PCR approach to evaluate cellular and HIV transcriptomes using chronically-infected cell lines and primary cell models. I have a particular interest in single cell studies and adapting and applying innovative technologies to answer novel mechanistic questions.
