30 years of ART: The Lazarus effect of NIH’s basic, clinical, and behavioral research

2026 marks the 30th year of highly active antiretroviral therapy (ART) and its incredibly beneficial effects on HIV/AIDS morbidity and mortality from HIV/AIDS. Most of the research that led to the massive advances in HIV treatment and prevention came from NIH-funded research, from basic science discovery to clinical research, to socio-behavioral studies that now all inform the behavioral support and care delivery innovations used around the world to deliver ART and pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP). This special CFAR seminar will present high-level highlights of NIH HIV research since the advent of highly effective ART, which has led to the end of the HIV epidemic finally being within view.

There will be 20-25 minutes for commentary and questions.
