Biography
I am an Infectious Diseases trained Internist based in the Department of Clinical Pharmacy, in the UCSF School of Pharmacy. My research is focused on HIV infection in women, particularly the effects of gonadal aging and pharmacology. My group developed novel methods for assessing exposure to antiretroviral drugs using small samples of hair. I am one of three Principal Investigators of the Northern California site of the Women's Interagency HIV Study, which is the largest NIH-supported study of HIV among women, and one of the most diverse NIH-funded cohort studies. I am the founder of the UCSF WIHS consortium and the UCSF Women's HIV Practice.
Within the School of Pharmacy, I am the Vice Chair for Research of the Department of Clinical Pharmacy (Lisa Kroon, PharmD is the Chair). I previously chaired the UCSF School of Pharmacy Faculty Council, and I am currently Vice Chair of the UCSF Academic Senate.
With the School of Pharmacy Dean, B. Joseph Guglielmo, and Monica Gandhi, MD, I co-lead the UCSF Bridging Interdisciplinary Research Careers in Women's Health K-12 program for early career clinical scientists focused on Women's Health. I co-founded, with James Kahn, the UCSF/Gladstone Center for AIDS Research Mentoring Program.
