Dr. Tonia Poteat's research, teaching, and practice focus on HIV and sexual and gender minority health with particular attention to transgender health. In addition to her academic work, she provides medical care for people living with HIV at UNC Medical Center. Dr. Poteat is a certified HIV Specialist by the American Academy of HIV Medicine; and she has provided primary care for transgender individuals since 1996.
