October 23, 2025
CFAR Special Update

Due to a citywide conference, we are now holding our Annual Mentoring the Mentors Workshop for HIV Researchers on Tuesday and Wednesday, January 20-21, 2026 in San Francisco! To allow investigators to check their calendars, deadlines have been extended: Scholarship: Monday, 11/3 and Registration: Friday, 11/7.  Registration Link

We will check with all our currently registered investigators to see if they can make the new dates. Your administrators should also be on the lookout for an email from us checking on the ability of your CFAR to provide travel support to your investigators who have requested it.

Investigators interested in attending the workshop are asked to complete the Registration Form. The application process for participation in the workshop will close on Friday, November 7, 2025 (scholarship deadline midnight November 3, 2025). Registrants accepted to participate in the workshop will be notified by email by November 19, 2025.

The two-day workshop is designed to support faculty engaged in HIV research in strengthening their mentoring capabilities. The workshop addresses common challenges encountered by early career investigators and includes instructional and interactive sessions on practical aspects of mentoring. Topics include navigating funding opportunities, time management, leadership development, manuscript and grant preparation, developing career plans, coaching mentees on professional priorities, exploring funding strategies, and building collaborative research teams. Descriptions and findings from the 1st workshop, the 2nd workshop and the 3rd workshop are found here.

For any questions, please email the coordinator of this event, Joseph Watabe, UCSF-Bay Area CFAR (Joseph.watabe@ucsf.edu).
