Dr. Springer is a Professor of Medicine in the Department of Internal Medicine, Section of Infectious Diseases at the Yale School of Medicine. She received her B.A. from Harvard University, her M.D. from U of Massachusetts Medical School and completed her Internal Medicine Residency and Infectious Disease Fellowship at Yale School of Medicine. She is Board-Certified in Internal Medicine, Infectious Diseases and Addiction Medicine. She is also the Director of the Infectious Disease Clinic at the Newington site of the CT Veterans Administration Healthcare System. Her clinical research lab at Yale School of Medicine called InSTRIDE (Integrating Substance use Treatment Research with Infectious Disease for Everyone) focuses on the integration of substance use and infectious diseases with a focus on opioid use disorder treatment in particular long-acting injectable medications for opioid use disorder (OUD) and the treatment and prevention of HIV infection in people who use drugs in community, hospital, and criminal legal settings. She has continuously been funded by the NIH since 2005 and currently is leading multiple clinical trials of integration of SUD and HIV prevention and treatment service interventions. In 2022, she was awarded a NIDA Avant Garde Award for her innovative proposal to bring mobile healthcare for substance use and HIV treatment and prevention to where people live through creating the first legalized mobile retail pharmacy and clinic in the United States.
