In celebration of International Transgender Day of Visibility, watch a scientific presentation by Madeline Deutsch, MD, MPH, director of the UC San Francisco (UCSF) Gender Affirming Health Program.

In this talk, Deutsch will describe the arc of her career in gender affirming healthcare, as well as the development, launch, and growth of the UCSF Gender Affirming Health Program. Deutsch will also touch on critical health system considerations facing the trans community. The Transgender Day of Visibility seminar aims to raise awareness of systemic issues that impact trans, nonbinary, and gender-diverse individuals, as well as those with intersecting identities.

Madeline Deutsch, MD, MPH (she/her)
Madeline Deutsch specializes in providing primary care for gender and sexual minorities, including individuals from the transgender, nonbinary gender, gay, lesbian, bisexual and queer communities. She is the director of the UCSF Gender Affirming Health Program and specializes in managing gender-affirming hormone therapy. In her research, Deutsch studies topics including HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (medications to reduce the risk of becoming infected), the use of electronic medical records to capture gender identity and sexual orientation data, and screening for cancer and sexual health risks in transgender populations. She has published more than 25 works on gender and sexual minority health topics. She is an associate editor for the journal LGBT Health. Deutsch is a member of the World Professional Association for Transgender Health, and serves on the board of directors for the local chapter of the US Professional Association for Transgender Health.
