Patricia Cioe is Professor and Associate Dean of Research and Scholarship at the University of Rhode Island College of Nursing and Adjunct Professor of Behavioral and Social Sciences at Brown University School of Public Health, affiliated with Brown University's Center for Alcohol and Addiction Studies (CAAS). As a nurse practitioner with more than 20 years of clinical experience caring for PWH, Dr. Cioe develops and tests innovative, nurse-led behavioral interventions that can be integrated into routine HIV care. Her research examines tobacco dependence among PWH. Her qualitative and clinical trials research has identified key barriers to quitting and has informed the development of peer-navigator models, mobile health tools, and innovative approaches such as nicotine replacement therapy preloading. Recognizing that many individuals may be unable or unwilling to quit smoking immediately, Dr. Cioe also conducts harm-reduction research. Across all projects, Dr. Cioe’s work aims to create practical, evidence-based interventions that improve long-term health and quality of life for people living with HIV.
