Biography

Dr. Diana Alba earned her medical degree at New York Medical College. She then went on to complete her Internal Medicine residency training at the University of Miami and her Endocrinology fellowship training at the University of California, San Francisco. She is an Assistant Adjunct Professor of Medicine in the Division of Endocrinology at the University of California San Francisco. She is a member of Suneil Koliwad’s laboratory at the UCSF Diabetes Center where she spearheaded the creation of a first-of-its-kind multi-ethnic to improve the landscape of obesity and reduce deleterious metabolic outcomes in individuals from highly vulnerable segments of the population.

Her research program seeks to identify transcriptional networks and cell types linked to the development of fat fibrosis and insulin resistance in the context of obesity across individuals with differing relationships between obesity and consequent diabetes. Dr. Alba has also been working with Dr. Peter Hunt to investigate the interaction between adipose tissue, immune activation, and risk factors for insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes in treated HIV.
