Call for Abstracts for Inter-CFAR Social and Behavioral Science Research Network 2022 Meeting - Due 3/24

Dear CFAR Early Stage Investigators,

The UPenn Center for AIDS Research is hosting the 14th annual meeting of the Social and Behavioral Science Research Network (SBSRN 2022) in Philadelphia on May 26th and 27th. The theme of the meeting this year will be, “Confronting Intersecting Epidemics: Prioritizing HIV/AIDS Research.”

Each CFAR has been asked to identify one early career investigator to participate in the 2-day meeting. Travel funds are available.

As in previous meetings, the first day will be focused on mentoring early career investigators from each CFAR. The SBSRN Mentoring Day has consistently been a very highly rated feature of the meeting that brings together early career investigators from across the country who will interact with established researchers, community representatives, and NIH program officials. The morning sessions provide interactive discussions led by senior investigators who describe strategies for successful grant applications and provide insights into the study section review process. In the afternoon, mentees and mentors meet in small group sessions to provide feedback and suggestions to projects presented by the mentees. The meeting hosts are also planning to hold several 2-hour webinars in the month preceding the on-site activities.

The second day of the meeting (May 27th) will be a scientific symposium that will directly address current research challenges and energize investigators to consider the impact and lessons learned from the COVID pandemic, the opioid epidemic, the HIV epidemic. The agenda is currently being finalized.

All invited mentees will be expected to present an abstract for a research project for feedback and advice. Mentee presentations are typically research projects, K awards, or other grant applications being developed by the mentee. At the end of the mentoring day, a reception and poster session open to all registered participants will highlight the work of the mentees and provide additional opportunities for networking and informal discussions. All mentees are asked to bring a poster for this session.

If you are interested in being considered to present at this meeting, please submit your abstract via the webform below by 5p Thursday, March 24, 2022.

Thanks for considering submitting an abstract to the meeting!
