Understanding the cellular factors associated with HIV latency
Sushama Telwatte is an Assistant Professor at the SF Veteran Affairs Medical Center and UCSF. She completed her PhD at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia, and her postdoctoral training in the laboratory of Dr. Steven Yukl. Her research centers on understanding the mechanisms underlying HIV latency in tissues.
Her current work focuses on applying single-cell multiplex qRT-PCR and single-cell RNAseq approaches to evaluate cellular and HIV transcriptomes in cells from people living with HIV on suppressive antiretroviral treatment and investigating novel small molecule drugs for latency reversal. She has a particular interest in adapting and applying innovative technologies to answer key mechanistic questions.
