About the Symposium

The four main objectives of the symposium are to (1) document health disparities in the Bay area in HIV, whether local, or regional; (2) highlight innovative ways in which disparities are being addressed currently; (3) generate novel ways to address health disparities in the future and (4) generate increased and productive interaction between public health programs, community-based researchers, and academic centers.

The symposium will be a multidisciplinary, all-stakeholder symposium that includes poster abstracts and selected presentations. The symposium will provide a mechanism to (1) capture what interventions are being researched within academic centers, community organizations and other research venues to address local disparities; (2) strengthen community research on this topic; (3) set the framework for developing a research agenda of new interventions; and (4) help solidify the science of disparities and its interventions.

The symposium is a collaboration between the Forum for Collaborative Research at the University of California, Berkeley School of Public Health and the UCSF-Gladstone Center for AIDS Research (CFAR).
